I am flying into Brussels on the 28th of September and have planned various routes through Germany, Italy and France for some road bike rides. I will be using a car and an occasional train for transporting between locations and shuttle back to start of rides. I will probably be doing daily rides along the way which will average 50 to 100km. The primary cycling locations are:
Sept. 29th - Rothenburg Ob Der Tauber to Ingolstadt Germany
Sept. 30th - Augsburg to Fuessen Germany
Oct. 1st - Lake Como Italy area
Oct. 2nd - Portofino Italy area
Oct. 3rd - Somewhere in Provence France
Oct. 4th - Alpe D'Huez
Oct. 5th - Possibly a Paris ride (if I have any legs left)
Back to Brussels for flight back on the 6th

The above schedule is not set in stone but a fair representation of a wish list.
I know this is short notice, but if anybody happens to be in any of these areas while I am there, or is planning to be over in Europe around the same time, it would be great to possibly hook up.

Best Regards,
Paul

hi paul,

your plan sounds to me that you will probably be more driving than cycling. with these distances between your "day trips" you won't need hotels for sleeping.
Are you cycling with a road bike or a moutain bike? I will be on vacation the same time and didn't fix my plan yet. Maybe I will be on the bike as well.
By the way, there are very nice long distance bicycle trails in europe where you can follow the signed trail for several days and don't even need a car.

reagards,

christoph from germany

Hello Christoph,

I will be riding a road bike.
Yes, I will be doing a bit of the combo of driving and cycling. The route selected is due to various trips I have taken to Europe which I did not have a chance to do any riding (due to business or having a non cycling companion with me). So with this trip, I have mapped out many of the locations that I wished I had a chance to ride but did not have the opportunity.

Personally, at least for me, the driving distances are not really that bad. I have figured the daily drives to be between 2 and 4 hours between destinations. Of course I also enjoy the scenery and history of Europe along the way.

If you still have an interest, please send me an email with your phone number and I can give you a call to discuss in more detail to possibly meet up for a section of the trip or even the full route.

My email address is: paul@sqmr.com
NOTE: the email address gets messed up when submitting to the forum. Correct the address by removing spaces and changing the "at" to the correct symbol.

As for transportation, I will be renting a full size wagon similar to a T-Model Benz which will be comfortable and accommodate the bikes and gear.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Best Regards,
Paul
