Hello!!

I cycle at the moment from the Laos border (Boten) up to Kunmig.
I write this today from Huanian.

Yunnan is full of beautiful landscape. But you have to climb a lot of mountains.
The hole south is full of rubber trees. There is almost no nature left.
I mean the area from the border of Laos up to Puer.
Sometimes is on the left side oft the street rainforest and on the right side nothing.

I cycle the old road Nr. 213. The road is very good in the south.
But further north sometimes hardly destroyed by Trucks.
The Highway is boring and also closed for cycling.

What information is useful for you?

Hey,

for more interesting cycling you should take minor roads east of hwy 213 - I forgot about the names of towns, but basically hugging the vietnamese border. Check out the rice terraces of yuanyang, cross the red river and head for the lakes south of Kunming. Tough cycling though, but really really nice!

Hey there,

Yunnan is one of the best cycling destinations of China! But you should be reasonable fit to enjoy it, as it is mountainous almost everywhere. I wouldn't recommend cycling in the south in summer as it is simply too hot/humid (unless you can stand/enjoy this climate). The northeast is nice, with places like Dali, Shangri-la, Lijiang, and the Tiger Leaping Gorge, but the best about China is the possibility to discover places and meet people away from the usual tourist crowds. Yunnan is huge, so for just one month, you should consider using public transport once in a while. It is no problem taking bikes on local busses in China!

Enjoy!
